I can certainly suggest this film. *The Last Samurai* has some really exciting and enjoyable battle scenes that are filmed exceptionally well. The story’s initial idea is appealing, and the actors do a smart job, considering the impressive group involved. It might run on for too long, but I didn't feel bored at any point. Tom Cruise does a superb job as Capt. Nathan Algren; it isn't unexpected because everyone knows he’s a capable actor, and he brings a lot to his role here, particularly in the emotional aspects. What becomes of Algren is well-handled, even though the romantic elements feel somewhat rushed. Ken Watanabe is wonderful as Katsumoto, while Masato Harada (Omura) and Timothy Spall (Graham) both deliver solid performances. It's also good to see Billy Connolly (Gant) and Scott Wilson (Swanbeck) in smaller parts. The music by Hans Zimmer is, as you’d expect, impressive. That would be one reason I think it’s worth watching.
