Following the death of his wife from cancer, “Tom” (played by Timothy Spall) embarks on a deliberate journey retracing a route they took years before, starting in John O’Groats in Caithness and traveling down the length of Great Britain to his home near Land's End in Cornwall—approximately 800 miles. With just a heavy coat and a small suitcase, he intends to use his bus pass, encountering various people along the way; some are kind, others less so, as they interact with him, offer hospitality, or even eject him from the bus for lacking a ticket. As he progresses, he begins to draw attention from local news outlets, but seems largely unconcerned by it—he's simply become a man focused on completing his goal. We see glimpses of their past through flashbacks featuring Ben Ewing and Natalie Mitson, which reveal details about their beginnings, romance, and the hardships they faced together. The narrative unfolds at a measured pace; while not boring, it isn’t particularly energetic either. Certain incidents during his bus trips feel somewhat artificial, and Spall has very few lines to make this often slow-moving drama more engaging. However, there are moments when the film offers a touching chance for a man to contemplate a life shared with the woman he loved, and I suspect it will connect deeply with those experiencing loss and grief.
