The unearthing of the previously lost battleship "USS Charlotte" presents an appealing chance for a group of former college students. At first, “Noah” (Jack Parr) is reluctant to join them, but his change of heart comes when he learns that his friend “Levi” (Julian Sands), who runs a bar, owes $36k. He extracts money from the unpleasant "Brett" (Alexander Arnold), and so they descend into the wreck. Things begin acceptably enough, but it’s important to remember that a battleship is a sprawling place with many corridors, ladders, portholes, and—particularly in this instance—rust. As this privileged and hungover group ventures further inside, they encounter something more concerning. Sharks also enjoy being there, and they're looking for some easy prey. With crumbling metalwork everywhere, the occasional corpse, and now these predatory fish to contend with, a submerged adventure unfolds, complete with plenty of shrieking and yelling—alongside acting and dialogue that made me consider joining an organization dedicated to shark conservation. The cinematography is decent, and it does create some suspense, but everything else feels like exaggerated comic book material, and the performers earn every bit of criticism they receive. Julian Sands, who appears sparingly, must have wanted a complimentary vacation somewhere sunny, or perhaps he had taxes to pay—otherwise, this is completely unremarkable entertainment that we’ve all encountered before and won't need to experience again. It might have been better named "The Last Gasp"?
