The initial scenes of 'The Karate Kid' are enjoyable to watch. I won’t pretend I wasn’t hoping for something more, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t find it entertaining—I really did. Because my only exposure to this story was the 2010 version, I anticipated some plot developments. Nevertheless, the storyline is engaging and delivers a worthwhile theme. The film's length feels excessive; I think cutting some material wouldn't have hurt and would’ve sped up the progression toward the karate tournament. The pacing is somewhat gradual, so for me, the first forty minutes weren't as captivating. However, everything after that is quite enjoyable. I noticed similarities to 'Rocky', especially in Ralph Macchio's performance. He brought to mind Sylvester Stallone—the acting itself isn’t spectacular, but he has enough charm and hints of potential. Macchio (as Daniel) does a solid job, as does Pat Morita (Mr. Miyagi), naturally. Now for the sequels!
