It’s worth watching, I might watch it again sometime, and I can suggest it if you've already seen other versions or are interested in a writing breakdown. For much of the film, I found myself feeling nostalgic, recalling things I saw and felt as a child, simply enjoying that trip down memory lane. It wasn’t until almost the very end that I understood how well-written it is. People often praise this for its amazing animation style, memorable songs, and sweet coming-of-age themes, but it employs several strong structures that have been used since Aesop's fables. That’s what made me appreciate the writing; it felt like watching a fable with moral lessons about consequences. Until then, I was thinking about how this 1967 animation could be seen as a metaphor for a spoiled child entering adulthood in 2020: never hearing "no," even when facing serious danger that could lead to loss, because they've been taught they deserve it, even if the logic doesn’t quite add up on either side. That kind of sounds like religious conflict. Getting back to the writing itself: Mowgli represents naivety, selfishness, entitlement—call it what you will—as he’s a product of extreme kindness; he just seems to stumble into survival wherever he goes. While Tarzan makes more sense, this is character development across different situations – each one like its own fable – with the main character shifting between Bagera, Mowgli, and Balloo, all learning lessons as they go along. Through the depiction of the jungle and the challenges Mowgli encounters, he gradually understands what Bagera and Baloo already know: that most people are primarily concerned with their own needs, but those who have enough can sometimes be in a position to help others. Sher Khan’s prejudice against Mowgli because he is human is significant enough for these predators to abandon their friendship to assist him on his way to the village of humans. The strange thing is that Mowgli accepts the self-interest needed to survive in the jungle, even though there's dialogue suggesting otherwise.
