Wuchak on The Invisible Man

7/10 · May 7, 2025

A chemist traveling through a snowstorm arrives at an inn in Iping, southern England, intending to complete some vital experiments. However, the locals’ attention quickly turns to him when they realize he's… invisible! The 1933 film adaptation of HG Wells’ 1897 novel simply shifts the story’s setting to the early 1930s and remains a surprisingly enjoyable piece of cinema. While I found the initial portion more engaging, the latter part concentrates on efforts by law enforcement to capture this elusive wrongdoer. Following its release, it spawned four sequels between 1940 and 1944, plus an appearance in a comedy with Abbott and Costello in 1951, and a remake that proved profitable in 2020. The movie has a runtime of 1 hour and 11 minutes and was filmed at Universal Studios, located just west of the Hollywood Sign in Los Angeles. GRADE: B
