_The Innocents_ evokes that feeling of listlessness from childhood, when you're alone and unsure how to occupy yourself. The character Ida seems inclined toward unsettling actions and embodies a boyish curiosity, frequently finding herself in over her head. Although it doesn’t completely realize all its ambitions, _The Innocents_ builds slowly into a disturbing thriller that carefully develops each aspect of its superhuman story, using a well-crafted and foreboding style for a film about children with abilities. It's rare to encounter a superhero narrative that feels quite so subdued and captivating.
