The stakes are incredibly high in this movie; there’s simply no margin for error! It's an undercover narrative rooted in actual events, recalling the 1980s when drug trafficking from Latin America across the southern border reached a peak. U.S. Customs deployed agents to infiltrate these organizations and catch them in the act. The film centers on one such operation, where a married man with children accepts a particularly difficult assignment that could have disastrous consequences if he falters. It explores how he and his team will manage to disrupt what may be a significant criminal enterprise, as revealed throughout the rest of the movie. We're familiar with the premise now, but this isn’t a simple undertaking. Many moments are genuinely suspenseful and gripping. Following his acclaimed performance in 'Trumbo,' which earned him an Academy Award nomination last year, Bryan Cranston delivers another compelling portrayal. Another Oscar nomination seems quite plausible for him, though we will need to see how things unfold. While the story largely revolves around his character, John Leguizamo also provides a noteworthy supporting performance, as does Diane Kruger. I believe this is one of the most believable undercover films I’ve encountered. The depiction of drugs, sex, and nudity is restrained, even though those elements are central to the plot. Action sequences were kept somewhat minimal, but when they do appear, they're exceptionally well-executed. Primarily, the film unfolds as a drama punctuated by thrilling scenes. It runs for two hours, and the story progresses at a steady rhythm. If you enjoy stories about law enforcement versus criminals, this is one worth seeing. _8/10_
