It's time for another brief film by George Melies, this one called The Infernal Boiling Pot. The movie starts with two demons cooking women in a pot, then the spirits of those women rise out of the boiling liquid and begin dancing above the demons’ heads. Essentially, what we’re seeing are early experiments in filmmaking from George Melies. This isn't the first one I've looked at (like The Haunted Castle), but this particular short really highlights his cleverness when it comes to using the camera. Things like the costumes, special effects, and set design demonstrate how committed a director can be to trying out new things in film. It’s remarkable what he achieved given that filmmaking was just getting started. Watching these shorts is enjoyable because you get to see the director's progress as he learns. It's difficult to give a proper review of something so brief. I suggest checking it out on YouTube, making yourself a margarita, and relaxing. These little treasures from film’s early days are worth experiencing.
