My family had weekly movie outings in the late 1970s, and we saw a lot of films—everything from musicals like "Grease" and "Thank God It's Friday" to scary movies such as "Carrie," and also the film I want to talk about now: The Incredible Melting Man. I recall being at the Chicago Theater (when it was still showing movies) with my mother and brother for a Carrie screening, and seeing the poster for The Incredible Melting Man. It really unnerved me, and I immediately asked my mom if we could go back and see that one sometime soon. Luckily, she said yes! We did end up watching The Incredible Melting Man the next week, and it was wonderfully creepy. It genuinely frightened me! I’m only rating it four stars because it takes a while to get going—a slow science fiction beginning, really. Science fiction movies were just so sluggish (and dull) back then, it felt like. Even though The Incredible Melting Man ultimately grabbed my attention and kept me on the edge of my seat, the initial pacing wasn’t ideal for me personally. That's why I’m giving it four stars. However, I would still suggest this cult classic to anyone who enjoys science fiction horror.
