I appreciated this depiction of the work done by British codebreakers at Bletchley Park, but I have to say that Sir Derek Jacobi’s 1996 portrayal felt more impactful when it came to showcasing Alan Turing's accomplishments—the gifted mathematician who headed a group of unusual people and cracked the German "Enigma" code. Benedict Cumberbatch seemed to be playing a version of his “Sherlock” role, complete with those characteristic thoughtful hand movements. The narrative unfolds through a retrospective viewpoint following Turing’s arrest by law enforcement for what we'd now consider inappropriate conduct, during which he is questioned by Rory Kinnear as "Detective Nock." I felt the characters were somewhat underdeveloped; Charles Dance, Keira Knightley, and Matthew Goode didn’t quite bring enough energy to their roles. Nevertheless, it remains a captivating story—presented in a very polished way.
