A detective, once a Marine, finds himself investigating disappearances in an isolated Ohio community, teaming up with someone knowledgeable about wolves after discovering disturbing remains. "The Hunting," released in 2022, is a modestly budgeted film that unfolds deliberately and creates a strong atmosphere connected to the full moon. It approaches the subject of lycanthropy with sincerity; viewers seeking humor won’t find it here. I appreciated the evident respect shown throughout the movie. Joelle Westwood delivers an especially memorable performance; she's quite lovely. Peyton Hillis, previously an NFL running back from 2008 to 2014, also fits the role of the stoic lead character well. The monster effects rely on practical techniques rather than computer-generated imagery, and as anticipated, they are more impressive than those seen in older werewolf movies like “The Wolf Man” (1941) or films by Paul Naschy. Filming took place near Mantua in northeastern Ohio, and the movie’s total length is one hour and thirty-one minutes. GRADE: B
