I’ll confess that despite owning this DVD for quite some time, my expectations were shaped by the presence of David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve, along with my general feeling that Tony Scott’s films hadn’t previously impressed me—with the exception of 'Crimson Tide'. And truthfully, it doesn't quite live up to those high points either. Still, I decided to watch it, and surprisingly, especially given that this was his first film, it wasn't terrible enough to cause Bram Stoker to stir in discomfort. Actually, even though the story felt a little flimsy, I found it pretty enjoyable; it’s an elegant and melancholy reflection on both the advantages and disadvantages of living forever. It leans heavily on style over depth, but that isn’t necessarily a flaw. In this case, it wasn't, and I personally really loved how it concluded.
