Dee Wallace portrays Karen, an investigative reporter who concentrates her efforts on a local serial killer. Following the police’s apprehension and death of this man, she experiences a strange and significant loss of memory. Seeking a fresh start, she travels to the isolated "Colony," intending to rest and recover. While initially greeted warmly, she quickly grows suspicious of those around her, and the unusual events occurring in the nearby forest only intensify her anxieties. Exploring the woods could provide an opportunity to resolve her fears—but there's danger involved, potentially connected to the man believed to be deceased. The narrative itself is compelling, and the sound design effectively creates a palpable atmosphere of dread as Karen settles into her new, isolated, and unsettling environment. However, the performances are lacking; Wallace’s acting feels uninspired, and Patrick Macnee, known for his role in "The Avengers," seems out of place as supernatural elements emerge and the film's quality declines. The dialogue becomes limited later on, which is somewhat beneficial because the darkness, shadows, and Pino Donaggio’s score do contribute to a feeling of threat. Still, I wished for a stronger, more committed cast. It's still worth seeing, though—it manages to keep you intrigued for quite some time.
