The film's success is largely due to Amanda Seyfried’s strong performance and Paul Feig’s knack for making movies intended to entertain audiences, even if they aren't groundbreaking. While the story does fall into familiar patterns and sometimes feels repetitive, its striking visuals and a big, impactful ending help compensate for these shortcomings. It's presented as an intentionally messy home-invasion style film; the conflict between characters and the dismantling of social facades ultimately suggest that real fear comes from overlooking unsettling truths happening right before our eyes.
