Sigeki Ogino on The Holy Mountain

10/10 · Oct 2, 2022

The video functions as a visualization of "psychotherapy," existing on a level that feels almost sacred. The many well-known sequences—strange, vividly colored, sexually charged, repulsive, and brought to life through Alexandre Jodorowsky’s transformative artistry—could potentially provide therapeutic benefits for individuals experiencing psychological distress, even without any spoken words. It's essentially a collection of images depicting the darker aspects of humanity, encompassing themes like sexuality, ugliness, holiness, relationships (whether loving or exploitative), treatment of those with disabilities, and disregard for animals, all interwoven within a single work. This isn’t just Alejandro Jodorowsky’s greatest achievement; it personally provided me with healing. I find this visual experience to be more restorative than substances or self-gratification—it's my path to redemption. Therefore, the film represents a revolutionary shift in psychiatric understanding that goes beyond traditional art forms. I am grateful for the relief it has given me. Watching without subtitles will significantly enhance your viewing pleasure.
