I wouldn’t go so far as to call this the year's finest offering; there are definitely films that surpass it. However, it manages to win you over in its own way. I was surprised to learn John Krasinski directs movies. Actually, this is his second feature film, and the only one of his I’ve seen—and I really liked it. What made it so enjoyable for me was its sentimental nature. It's not a silly melodrama, but rather an uplifting movie with plenty of humor sprinkled throughout. The actors were all performing at their best. I found myself liking every character and appreciating their individual portrayals. At times, the film feels like a grounded drama, but those comedic moments remind you that it’s just a story. Margo Martindale was truly fantastic; I've never seen her in such a great role, especially one so important to the narrative. If I recall this movie down the road, it will be largely because of her performance. The only thing I didn’t care for was the twist—it seemed intended to shift the pace and tone, but felt out of place given what was happening in the story. Still, it didn't bother me much, and I still thoroughly enjoyed myself. The film centers on the Hollar family as they come together when they need each other most. When John learns his mother is ill, he immediately returns home. His brother is already there, and their father is facing financial difficulties. They all work through various challenges to prepare for a medical procedure. Alongside this, there are some lighter moments—reconnecting with old friends, revisiting familiar places, encountering an ex-wife, etc. The rest of the movie unfolds to show how everything plays out and where everyone will end up. This film is primarily aimed at families. If you appreciate emotional stories that pull at your heartstrings, you’ll likely enjoy it too. In my view, this film deserves more recognition; it's underrated, mainly because the cast isn’t widely known, which led to a lack of promotion. The movie poster itself isn’t very striking—it almost looks like a low-budget film, and in a way, it is, but it’s an excellent one. It’s worth watching for many reasons, and you'll understand why if you give it a chance. I recommend it. _8/10_
