It’s easy to see why performers might be drawn to collaborating with a director like Jamie Adams on an improvised film built around a basic idea, but as someone watching, I don't think that approach results in a story that feels genuine or particularly well-made—The Holiday List felt disjointed. Throughout the movie, it’s impossible to determine what any of these characters truly desire, their relationships with each other, or even where things are headed; they all just seem unhappy consistently. By the time the characters finally reach an impasse, you're left feeling like your time has been misspent. The romantic pairings feel off—they resemble siblings, and honestly, the sibling relationship has more spark than any of the couples. The father is struggling with grief and alcoholism, but his storyline doesn’t really improve. Lola embodies extreme lesbianism and doesn’t contribute meaningfully to what's happening overall. And it would have been better if all the relationships had ended. I’m giving two points for Brittany Snow and the inclusion of lesbians; I’m deducting points for the confusing French elements.
