The film opens and closes with remarkable original footage depicting the construction wonder that was the Zeppelin "Hindenburg." The majority of the movie focuses on a careful examination of historical details in an attempt to determine exactly what led to this airship’s catastrophic destruction. George C. Scott ("Col. Ritter") and Anne Bancroft ("The Countess") head up the cast, with some characters inspired by actual people and others who are fictional, as the story moves from Frankfurt to New York. After takeoff, "Ritter" suspects a possible plot to damage this representation of Nazi strength carried out by those working in secret, setting off a countdown to protect the passengers and crew from a potential disaster. It's a fairly standard thriller; Bancroft’s presence elevates it somewhat, preventing the storyline from falling apart as quickly as the airship did. The special effects are surprisingly decent, but the conversations and overall speed of the movie just don't quite engage you....
