It brings to mind "Carry On Dick" (1974), and honestly, that film probably has more merit than this disappointing mess. Morgan Rees-Davies steps into the role of England’s famed highwayman, who gets himself into trouble when he accidentally abducts the Earl of Pembroke's daughter (Steven Dolton). It’s hard to say who is suffering most in this situation, because "Elizabeth" (Mollie Hindle) isn’t one to be easily intimidated. In fact, she seems to enjoy the freedom and thrill that come with a life free from restrictive clothing and formal manners. Meanwhile, her dishonest fiancé "Winthroppe" (Tom Hendryk) is scheming to take advantage of her father's financial difficulties so he can seize their home, which may contain valuable mines, and then... Most of the action and adventure are left to Ciaron Davies, who resembles Aiden Turner, as "O’Reilly," and I will say that his performance is about the only thing remotely interesting here. It might have seemed promising after a few drinks, but on screen it's a badly thought-out idea that fails to satisfy in any way. The performances are rudimentary, with dialogue attempting some awkward moments of dark humor before reaching an ending that would make Sid James appear worthy of an Academy Award. There was potential for a good story and interesting themes, and ample opportunity for something worthwhile – instead, we get a limp and uninspired drama that struggles to reach ninety minutes.
