This film, “The Hazing,” also known as “Dead Scared,” takes cues from “The Evil Dead” and delivers a surprisingly entertaining experience for a low-budget slasher. The story centers on seven college students who find themselves in a fraternity house during Halloween, where an unholy book summons the spirit of a disturbed professor with possession on his mind—and it’s up to them to survive. The movie's enjoyment comes from its humorous tone and nods to Sam Raimi’s earlier horror films; honestly, it holds up as well as or even better than those initial installments. A particular pleasure is the presence of Tiffany Shepis, playing Marsha in a memorable bodysuit, alongside Nectar Rose as Delia, who appears in a bunny costume. “The Hazing” clocks in at 1 hour and 27 minutes and was filmed in Los Angeles. I’d give it a B-.
