It's an enjoyable film that I’d happily watch again, and I feel comfortable suggesting it to others. Eddie Murphy is generally entertaining, even in movies made during his less successful period with Disney. The level of detail put into creating the mansion and the visual effects for the ghosts is really impressive. The plot unfolds well, following a familiar pattern of gradually revealing clues, searching, and uncovering secrets. While the central idea behind the haunting isn't particularly original, it does have a slight resemblance to "Beauty and the Beast," and Terence Stamp convincingly portrays a sinister older man. The child actors are likable, and there’s a certain appeal to the movie, but ultimately nothing about it feels exceptional.
