The "Horror" label seems to be applied too readily; there’s really nothing frightening about this movie. It features less than sixty seconds of a dream sequence, and that’s it. The scene involving the boy in the kitchen runs longer, and I wouldn't classify it as comedy either. I've even recommended removing the horror tag because it is fundamentally a mystery film. I found Murnau's early work to be tedious for most of its length! It was technically sound throughout, but the absence of engaging direction, settings, acting, characters, drama, humor, suspense—practically everything—made watching it a rather lifeless experience. The plot unfolds as a mystery where the central secret is clear from quite early on, and the remainder of the story just follows along behind that obvious clue. While there’s a short dream sequence hinting at Murnau's later visual style seen in *Nosferatu*, some of the outdoor shots are visually pleasing, and the film manages to find a small spark of drama towards the end; however, unless you're researching Murnau's work, I don't think this is worth watching.
