The movie held my interest for the most part, and I didn't find fault with the performances. I will admit there were moments where the pacing felt slow; at one point, I even dozed off briefly. That said, I haven't been getting enough sleep recently. I did think it was strange that Essel, Gawain’s partner, had such a short hairstyle. Was that typical for women during the Middle Ages? There are a few unexpected turns in the story that give it some energy, and I won’t spoil them here. Instead, I'll just say the conclusion brought to mind the ending of The Last Temptation of Christ. It’s worth keeping your focus as the film nears its end so you can follow what's happening. I would categorize this movie alongside others that I probably won’t revisit, but I don’t regret dedicating two hours to it.
