The Green Knight unfolds as a deliberate exploration of one man’s inner world, featuring visuals and sound design unlike anything I’ve encountered. Director David Lowery crafts a weighty story with careful construction, centering on Sir Gawain's path toward understanding himself—a character marked by imperfections. Dev Patel gives a remarkably restrained yet compelling performance, supported by a strong ensemble. The film benefits greatly from Andrew Droz Palermo’s beautiful cinematography, Daniel Hart’s evocative music, and particularly Johnny Marshall’s resonant sound work; these elements truly amplify the movie's grand scale. Certain fantastical aspects seemed unnecessary to me, and the absence of action contributes to an extremely slow pace. I wasn’t entirely satisfied with how the story concluded, even though it did take me by surprise. Ultimately, it remains a substantial character-driven film that I would suggest to those who enjoy fantasy films, but people looking for fast-paced thrills should be aware of what they're getting into.
