The Greatest Showman really has its music doing most of the work; the film experience largely depends on it. The narrative isn't particularly deep—it takes considerable liberties in portraying P.T. Barnum—but the musical numbers are captivating, making it easy to get caught up in the moment. Hugh Jackman commits fully to his character, and the group performances are visually impressive. I recognize that the film doesn’t adhere closely to historical facts, but I didn't find this problematic while watching because the focus is on the overall vibe and excitement. Songs like “This Is Me” and “From Now On” elicited a strong emotional response, and the dancing is exceptionally well-coordinated. It isn’t flawless, certainly, but as an uplifting musical featuring incredibly memorable songs, it succeeds in its intentions.
