Waldo Pepper, who used to fly in World War I, travels through small towns in America, offering short plane rides to people who aren’t convinced. It's obvious that everyone involved with this film has a passion for airplanes and managed to recreate the atmosphere of the time after the war when it seemed like anything was possible. The risks associated with early aviation are demonstrated by what happens at “Doc Dilhoefer’s Flying Circus,” including an incident where a young woman performing on the wing stops moving. Waldo runs into trouble with the authorities because, as they say, "it's time that aviation got civilized." Facing few options after being banned from flying, he discovers a new outlet in movies, where perilous situations and dangerous stunts involving old, unreliable aircraft are commonplace. An adversary Waldo never encountered during the war, Ernst Kessler (perhaps Ernst Udet?), shows up for their next undertaking—a large-scale three-on-one dogfight sequence. As the FAA continues its pursuit, Waldo’s time in the air is drawing to a close, even though he's in better condition than Kessler, who looks worn down. Both Waldo and Kessler abandon their parachutes as filming begins; this aerial display promises to be an intense competition! 7/10
