I’ve reached a point where I can’t get through this anymore. It's enjoyable, certainly—my dad used to make me watch it when I was younger, and I really liked it back then. However, Eddie Izzard completely destroyed my enjoyment of it. Now, every time I attempt to view it, all I can do is recall his stand-up routine. I believe it came from either "Dressed to Kill" or possibly “Circle,” but regardless, that’s how you know something is truly brilliant: when it permanently and totally diminishes a beloved film because the performance overshadows the movie itself. Izzard made a valid observation, so it's understandable that he comes to mind whenever I revisit it. He reduced Steve McQueen's character to a source of humor, and I appreciate him for doing so. That being said, if you’re unfamiliar with his stand-up, the movie itself is entertaining. It isn’t as good as Stalag 13, but it leans more toward action, and—again, while Izzard had a point—it remains an enjoyable film.
