This new Netflix movie at least offers something visually appealing with Ryan Gosling, who seems to defy aging, and Chris Evans, though his performance feels a bit exaggerated. However, the rest of it falls short, even considering their previous work. The story begins with a man being freed from prison by "Fitzroy" (Tommy Lee Jones) so he can become part of an exclusive CIA assassination team. Called "Six" (Gosling), his initial assignment closely resembles a sequence from “Mechanic” (2011), where he’s tasked with eliminating a former colleague. The job turns out to be surprisingly easy, but thankfully for the audience, he receives a microchip revealing that his new supervisor, "Carmichael" (Regé-Jean Page), is corrupt. What follows is a series of extended fight scenes reminiscent of “John Wick,” and despite the CIA’s considerable resources, they struggle to capture "Six." As things get more dire, "Hansen" (Evans) is brought in to try another approach by abducting the daughter of the now-retired Tommy Lee Jones and using her as a bargaining chip. A lot of violence ensues, and during this time, beautiful buildings in Prague and Croatia are reduced to ruins; local people are killed, causing distress for those working in CIA public relations. Ana de Armas wears an eye-catching suit early on, but like always, her role is rather forgettable; Tommy Lee Jones isn’t at his best either, and the movie progresses toward a predictable ending that stretches a very thin plot and portrays a disturbing picture of a completely uncontrolled CIA running wild—a scenario that doesn't seem realistic. There are plenty of car chases, gun battles, and explosions, but these aren't enough to make up for a rather ordinary script and a combination of narratives we’ve seen done much better many times before. Still, if you have the opportunity to see it during its brief theatrical release, I would recommend checking it out. On television, this feels like just another piece of content with famous actors that you'll quickly forget.
