"The Goonies" begins exceptionally well, establishing a vibrant sense of what childhood felt like in the 1980s. There's genuine enjoyment to be had observing the teenagers as they interact, play jokes on one another, and engage in imaginative antics around their homes. It brings back memories of a time when children frequently spent time together face-to-face, contrasting with how everyone seems attached to devices now. The narrative progresses smoothly between sections because of Richard Donner’s capable direction; he's responsible for well-regarded films like Superman, Lethal Weapon, and The Omen, so his success here isn’t unexpected. It makes an ideal choice for a family movie night.
