Jessica Chastain portrays Amy, a nurse juggling demanding overnight shifts at her community hospital while raising two children and dealing with a serious heart condition needing expensive surgery. Things seem poised to improve when she meets Charlie, played by Eddie Redmayne. He’s an agreeable and likable man, and they start developing a friendship that is described as platonic. However, the atmosphere changes abruptly when a patient dies at the hospital, prompting a police investigation that raises serious concerns. It becomes apparent that this death is just one in a string of strange occurrences, and Charlie's friendly nature might be misleading. Because the movie is adapted from a true story, there’s no suspense regarding the details of what happened or who was responsible. The film largely focuses on Chastain and Redmayne, both giving solid performances as nurses. Redmayne has limited screen time until near the end, where his performance feels somewhat over-the-top. Chastain carries more weight in the narrative and delivers a more nuanced portrayal, but even her efforts are hampered by weak writing and an incredibly slow tempo. At times, it resembles a documentary, with a soundtrack that doesn't help to improve the overall underwhelming quality of the film. The premise is intriguing, but ultimately, it’s not particularly memorable.
