It doesn’t demand to be taken seriously, however *'The Gnome-Mobile'* manages to be charming and funny. Walter Brennan is easily the strongest element, delivering a double performance. He portrays Mulrooney with warmth and kindness, while also embodying Knobby’s grumpy and irritated demeanor. I didn’t even recognize it was him playing both parts for quite some time, if not for the opening titles. The other performers are adequate, and Ed Wynn brings another brief but pleasant appearance as Rufus. The visual effects haven't stood up particularly well over time, which is to be anticipated given that this is a film from 1967, so it’s not something I fault it for. The story itself is rather strange, particularly the unusual ending. Similar to *'The Adventures of Bullwhip Griffin'*, it prioritizes comedic adventure above coherent storytelling – and while that does create some issues, it generally succeeds in making it work. Clocking in at just 85 minutes, it’s a film I would suggest watching at least once.
