I was almost completely taken with it. The initial part of 'The Gauntlet' seemed really good; I appreciated the way things were being put together. It didn’t quite live up to what I initially hoped for, but that doesn’t change the fact that this movie from 1977 is still quite enjoyable. Clint Eastwood and Sondra Locke are paired off again, like in several other films from that time period. Out of the five I've watched with them together, I liked their combination best in this one—particularly Locke’s performance. Pat Hingle and William Prince stand out among the supporting cast. I thought the two main actors were fun to watch and the story was a solid source of entertainment; there are many impressive practical effects that I found appealing. What kept me from completely loving it included the ending, which while good, could have possibly been even better, and the antagonists—who felt somewhat bland in terms of their characters. Overall, I think this is definitely a film worth seeing.
