I tend to view Asian film as catering to several different audiences. Japanese cinema is recognized for its horror, unusual films featuring monsters, and other oddities. Southeast Asia provides a unique brand of gory horror and action movies, while China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan offer a mix of genres—there are good action pictures, decent horror, but the comedies often fall flat, and many have narratives that don't quite make sense. However, Korean film offers something different – it’s like the Asian equivalent of Hollywood. You get excellent horror movies such as The Host and Train to Busan, well-liked romantic comedies like My Sassy Girl, critically acclaimed films like Parasite—and naturally, the exceptional Sympathy trilogy with Oldboy and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. Korean thrillers stand apart. And if you were impressed by I Saw The Devil, I’m sure you’ll find every moment of The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil to be enjoyable.
