Brian De Palma returns to explore psychic phenomena and telekinetic abilities, though not without some shortcomings. The film, adapted by John Farris from De Palma’s own novel, features a cast including Kirk Douglas, John Cassavetes, Carrie Snodgress, Charles Durning, Amy Irving, Fiona Lewis, and Andrew Stevens; the score is composed by John Williams and Richard H. Kline handled the cinematography. While there are definite positives—notably compelling performances from the actors, De Palma’s skillful direction in places, a wonderful musical accompaniment by Williams, and a horror-worthy conclusion—the movie also suffers from an overabundance of explanation, a slow pace during its middle portion, and a screenplay that doesn't always flow logically. However, pushing through these issues proves worthwhile as the final third descends into bizarre and violent territory, proving captivating in both feel and how it’s presented. It isn't flawless by any measure, but when at its best, *The Fury* truly shines. 7/10
