Successful surgeon “Kimble” (Harrison Ford) enjoys a life of luxury until he's wrongly convicted of murdering his wife and ends up in the back of a prison van. He insists on his innocence, but faces execution – at least until the vehicle makes an unplanned stop, leading to a chaotic situation from which he manages to flee. The local police believe everyone is safe, but Chicago Marshall “Gerard” (Tommy Lee Jones) notices extra leg restraints and realizes the doctor has escaped. Despite lacking apparent survival skills, Kimble proves relentless when driven by false accusation of killing his wife, with "Gerard" relentlessly pursuing him as he attempts to uncover her true killer, "Helen" (Sela Ward). During this search, we meet former colleagues like “Eastman” (Julianne Moore) and “Nichols” (Jeroen Krabbé), plus the unsettling “Sykes” (Andreas Katsulas), who seems plucked from a classic horror film. Although scientific evidence appears to incriminate him, he strives to find out what really happened. Viewers familiar with the 1960s television show will likely notice few parallels as this version utilizes superior production values to place us in both the fugitive’s desperate situation and showcases the advanced equipment available to those tracking him. The film moves quickly and demonstrates why Ford became a major movie star. I thought the conclusion was disappointing, feeling hurried and somewhat predictable; however, setting aside that final portion, it remains an engaging chase thriller that holds your attention.
