_The Forgiven_ presents itself as if it's aiming to comment on disparities in wealth or the obliviousness of privilege, and also manages to work in some commentary regarding racial issues. The sequence involving mice being dropped from buildings while attached to parachutes displaying swastikas is strikingly odd. Throughout, the movie hints at mortality and doubt through accounts of brutality, alongside a short scene depicting Hershel’s decapitation from _The Walking Dead_. Even with performances from an exceptionally skilled group of actors, _The Forgiven_ feels like it wanders aimlessly until you're just hoping it will conclude, regardless of where it arrives.
