I find it disappointing overall, though I do appreciate the premise. The Fog has been heavily criticized on Letterboxd, with an average rating of just 1.6, which is pretty bad. I don’t believe it's quite as terrible as that score suggests, but I can see why people dislike it; for me, it squanders a promising idea. I wasn’t particularly bothered by the special effects—they aren’t spectacular, but they didn’t let me down either. The only times I noticed them were when there was an excessive amount of fog. However, I thought the appearance of the "natives" was pretty good. The film definitely feels drawn out, and the ending is really poor. As for the acting, it's acceptable; Tom Welling (Nick) and Maggie Grace (Elizabeth) are adequate performers, though most of the other cast members deliver weak portrayals. It’s not great, but I don’t think it’s *that* bad. Remakes often provoke frustration, particularly for those familiar with the original. Since I haven't seen that version, perhaps my perspective is different.
