This new installment in the Omen series, similar to many recent sequels based on established franchises, misses the point of what made the initial movies so effective. I distinctly recall seeing the first Omen film and how captivated I was. The complex storyline, which unsettlingly disrupted a feeling of everyday life with an increasingly disturbing sense of dread and supernatural threat, proved genuinely absorbing. In comparison, The First Omen struggles to achieve genuine advancement or inventiveness. For much of its running time, it’s frankly quite boring. It does try to incorporate familiar elements and occurrences from the earlier films, but doesn't manage to create a notably original story alongside them. Furthermore, as other critics have pointed out—and I agree with their assessment—the predictable conclusion does little to lessen the overall feeling of disappointment. Ultimately, if you’re new to the Omen franchise, don’t begin with this one. The earlier films are horror classics and deserve your attention. This film, on the other hand, will likely be regarded as a small detail in the history of Omen movies by fans like myself—and that's assuming it’s remembered at all.
