This film, drawing from a true story, proved to be pretty decent, though it suffered from drawn-out moments and an overabundance of ineffective emotion. It’s a disaster drama-thriller set in 1952, and I was pleasantly surprised by how good it turned out to be. However, there were aspects that didn't quite work for me; the narration frequently stopped with long pauses where essentially nothing occurred beyond allowing the music to create an emotional atmosphere—which ultimately fell flat. Important scenes sometimes felt frozen, like waiting for a move in chess. During a key moment when the boat was packed full of people, another unnecessary pause arose that I found irritating. It was certainly a significant part of the story, but it didn’t connect emotionally or, perhaps, it simply relied too heavily on sentiment. I appreciated the narrative itself, but the film felt longer than necessary, which slowed down the unfolding of events—a definite negative rather than a positive. I thought the acting was strong across the board and the CGI was acceptable as well. The dark setting gave them an advantage in recreating the atmosphere of 65 years ago and avoiding mistakes. I hadn’t seen any promotional material beforehand, but I had heard about this project, and based on the posters, I initially assumed it would be about an offshore oil rig. Seeing the film revealed my error and was quite a shock to realize such events actually happened. The movie managed to keep me engaged throughout. Credit goes to the director who consistently explores different genres despite not having access to massive budgets. It's a good film, but as I mentioned earlier, it could have been even better, particularly in those emotionally charged scenes. I’m unsure how well the 3D version holds up, but this standard presentation is worth checking out. 7½/10
