Sam Neill isn’t usually someone I find particularly impressive, and his performance here certainly didn’t manage to convey any real sense of threat. Nevertheless, this installment is a significant improvement over the second film. Now in control of his expansive "Thorn" corporation, “Damien” focuses on preventing the newly arrived Nazarine baby—along with the sacred daggers—from potentially derailing his ambition to dominate the world. Following Herodian practices, he attempts to eliminate all male infants born during a specific timeframe; however, when he learns that the actual child is living nearby, he’s forced to personally intervene. The film shares similarities with the initial movie and feels somewhat overextended, but it's enjoyable to see Rossano Brazzi ("Barefoot Contessa" (1954) and "Italian Job" (1969)) back on screen, and the story progresses at a decent pace toward an ending that, considering its title, “The Final Conflict,” isn’t particularly surprising. It's not exactly brilliant, but it also avoids being completely awful.
