Graham Baker directed The Final Conflict, which was written by David Seltzer and Andrew Birkin. It features Sam Neill as Damien Thorn, now a powerful figure in business on the verge of entering politics, along with Rossano Brazzi, Don Gordon, Lisa Harrow, Barnaby Holm, Mason Adams. Jerry Goldsmith composed the music, and Phil Meheux and Robert Paynter handled the cinematography. This third installment of "The Omen Trilogy" finds Damien Thorn, the Antichrist, rising to prominence while a biblical prophecy prepares to be fulfilled. A religious order and what seems like the second coming of Christ appear to be humanity's only chance. Despite being noticeably less impressive than its predecessors, this film manages to bring things to an end without being completely awful. Sam Neill delivers a noteworthy performance as a truly menacing presence, but the movie feels stretched out for something with so little violence. The story’s darker elements are engaging enough to hold attention (there's even a disturbing scene involving infanticide), though it suffers from too many unresolved issues and disregards details established in the earlier films. The ending arrives as an overly sentimental, almost saccharine religious display. It seems destined primarily for those already invested in the series, providing closure for viewers who started with the first film in 1976. For others, though, this installment’s slow pace is probably going to be tedious and frustrating. It earns a rating of 6/10.
