Presented as a spy story, _The Exception_ turns out to be primarily a romantic film—a romance with challenges, certainly, but that's typical of most romances you see. The acting is good, surprisingly so given Jai Courtney’s involvement, though the movie itself feels peculiar. I noticed some unusual stylistic decisions, nothing major enough to ruin it entirely. Final rating:★★½ - There was a great deal here that I liked, but ultimately it didn't quite come together.
