It’s an acceptable film, though unlikely to revisit, and I wouldn’t suggest it unless you are particularly fond of old-fashioned gore achieved with practical effects. I really don’t understand why this was considered so popular when it came out. Perhaps it simply reflected the tastes of the era; maybe the 1980s were just a time when audiences wanted to see extreme violence, and there weren't many choices available. It isn't terrible, I have to say. The plot lacks sufficient explanation for what’s going on, so no expectations are really set up to be challenged, but I wouldn't want the movie to elaborate any further than it already does. I'm struggling to articulate my thoughts about this: it follows a familiar storyline—a warning against meddling with powers beyond comprehension—and is filled with blood, gore, and strangely conceived possession sequences. One thing I appreciate about paranormal survival scenarios like this is the sense that there might be a solution, if the characters can discover it. This feels more like someone destroyed a dam, and now we’re all going to die in a flood. I believe this movie had potential for greater depth, but I doubt it will stick with me; still, I did find it reasonably entertaining while watching.
