This movie is genuinely funny. I don’t think *The Emperor’s New Groove* has a particularly strong story, exceptional music or groundbreaking animation. Those things aren’t really the point though; what makes this film work is its humor. It didn't consistently elicit huge laughs, but I found myself amused throughout the entire thing. The storyline is quite absurd, and that actually helps it, with many elements that don't entirely make sense—the movie even acknowledges this itself later on. That just contributes to the enjoyment; they seem aware that it’s a lighthearted 78 minutes and manage to pull it off. A big part of why it succeeds is due to David Spade and John Goodman. Spade does a great job as Kuzco, delivering exactly the right kind of cleverness for this spoiled emperor. But Goodman really steals the show; I especially liked his performance as Pacha. Patrick Warburton also provides solid support as Kronk. It’s an easygoing film to watch, and you'll likely have a good time if you simply relax and appreciate it—which is exactly what I did.
