Despite losing a bit of momentum toward its conclusion, this is a genuinely entertaining portrayal of three young idealists aiming to show the privileged a thing or two. "Jan" (Daniel Brühl) and "Jule" (Julia Jentsch) plan an intrusion into the lavish home of "Herdenberg" (Burghart Klaußner), intending only mischief. They move his belongings, help themselves to his drinks—even toss his costly leather sofa into his pool. Their escape is successful until she realizes her phone was left behind. Their subsequent return doesn't go as smoothly, and they unexpectedly find themselves holding someone captive while trying to evade capture. With the assistance of her boyfriend and comrade "Peter" (Stipe Erceg), they retreat to a secluded cabin where the quartet spends several days reflecting on their lives, relationships, and values. The central question becomes what to do with the person they're keeping. It’s an agreeably breezy drama featuring compelling performances from Brühl and Jentsch, as we observe Klaußner portraying someone who seems uncertain whether his character is a man harboring secrets of his own, and whose trustworthiness remains in doubt. The film does feel extended; the second half would benefit from some editing. Nevertheless, the script conveys a subtle but impactful message concerning what truly holds importance and how political perspectives evolve as people mature and often reassess their beliefs.
