I generally make an effort to see anything that features Jim Broadbent and Helen Mirren, and this film was no exception because of them. Like many others recently, it’s a motion picture inspired by something that really happened. I don't mind that in itself, but as someone who writes stories, I occasionally wonder if studios might offer more support to screenwriters working on original fiction projects. However, that thought doesn't diminish my enjoyment of this particular film at all. Broadbent is consistently strong, and his performance when he’s persuading the jury in a courtroom scene is particularly memorable—it almost makes the entire movie worthwhile. Helen Mirren completely embodies her character as a worn-down homemaker, delivering an excellent portrayal. I remained engaged throughout, and the subtle turn in the story took me by surprise, although it seemed perfectly logical once explained. I’d happily watch this film again if given the chance; that's how I distinguish between something merely acceptable and truly enjoyable viewing.
