And this film, titled “The DUFF,” manages to do just that; you’ll discover its meaning from the promotional materials. The quality of the movie was better than average. The characters were well-developed, though not particularly groundbreaking. It proved to be an enjoyable experience—certainly not a typical irritating teen film. The direction was solid, supported by a strong screenplay adapted from the book of the same name. The acting was also commendable, with Bella Thorne perfectly suited for playing those stereotypical mean girls. The character of Bianca was especially well-done. Whitman seemed a bit too old for his part, but he delivered a great performance. They navigated the content carefully to stay within the PG-13 rating, and they succeeded.
