I appreciate films made in Australia; quite a bit of it is excellent. The Dry functions as an acceptable crime thriller, though I don’t consider it to be exceptional. The film contains a workable narrative, but it doesn't entirely hold together. The resolution, which addresses what seems intended to be the central point—the death of a young woman—feels somewhat tacked on and unrealistically easy. It also appears that several supporting characters are simply there to fill space. They seem like unnecessary additions to the “who did it” storyline, which occasionally makes the film feel rather dull. Some individuals appear repeatedly during the movie, but because they aren't developed enough, I struggle to remember their identities. Despite these issues, the production remains worthwhile. Strong performances from the actors bring this crime thriller to life and keep you engaged until the very end. It has flaws, but it’s far from tedious. Overall, The Dry is a respectable Australian film, though not a masterpiece. If you enjoy crime dramas originating in Australia, it's worth seeing.
