The bar owned by "Bob" (Tom Hardy) and his cousin "Marv" (James Gandolfini) serves as a discreet location for payments made to their Chechen employers, and things proceed smoothly until the money is stolen. They are then obligated to recover the funds, which quickly pulls them into a series of betrayals and lies within criminal circles; this situation is further complicated by a police inquiry concerning another killing, and the presence of "Eric Deeds" (Matthias Schoenaerts), whose dog “Bob” had saved from abuse. Suspicion falls on everyone as director Michaël Roskam utilizes his cast's abilities, along with some well-chosen lighting and a measured progression of the story’s tempo to contribute to this above-average thriller reaching its inventive finale. "Nadia," portrayed by Noomi Rapace, has limited screen time, and Hardy’s accent might not be entirely convincing – however, the intricacies of the storyline and an earnest effort to create relatable characters do help it distinguish itself. Hardy demonstrates his capacity for portraying a more layered character, making this film worthwhile with its unusual final scene.
